Classroom Educational Rugs - A Long Lasting Investment!

As an educator of young children, chances are good that you are always on the lookout to find inventive and original approaches of capturing the attention of your classroom and piquing your student's curiosity. Visual aids, such as educational rugs, are very useful in stimulating interaction in young minds and in reinforcing concepts that you are trying to help them master. An educational rug is simply a rug that is embellished with different visuals like the alphabets, the days of the week, colors, shapes, numbers, and more. And because these types of rugs are durable and offer such longevity (some may last for decades or longer), many school districts allocate and appropriate funding for educators to procure these rugs among their general purchases.

Reinforcement of Concepts

Finding new and pioneering methods to instill important concepts in children during their formative years seem to be a never ending task that teachers and parents are taxed with. The more diverse the ways in which you present information to your students, the heightened the results tend to be. Children are never identical when it comes to their learning processes, and presenting information that they need in a variety of ways goes a long way towards reaching students with all types of learning personalities. For instance, a child who is struggling to remember different shapes, or who has not yet mastered his colors may learn these concepts more quickly when he sees them reinforced on the educational rug each day. He may notice it each time he enters the classroom, and slowly this reinforcement will result in his mastery of shapes or colors.

Learning Hands-On

Many teachers choose to use the educational rug as a sort of game mat, and there are some educational rugs that are made for just that purpose, such as those featuring hopscotch, among others. Some teachers also come up with games that go along with the rug, such as a bean bag toss game, for example. And there are rugs that are designed in much the same way as a board game, with the students playing the game being life size 'tokens' that move around the board by answering questions regarding a particular topic being discussed. This type of hands-on learning, while competitive, can be a highly effective and interactive learning tool that encourages socialization.

Purchasing Educational Rugs

When purchasing educational rugs for your classroom, be sure to go with a quality rug from the get-go. Although there are less expensive and lower quality options on the market, buying a top quality rug gives you the confidence that you rug may just be around for your entire tenure as a teacher. Look for a heavyweight rug that has been crafted in a low pile, and that is resistant to stains. If your rug does not come factory-treated for stain resistance, you might consider doing this yourself using a readymade spray product. And last of all, display your rug out of the way of general traffic within the classroom to make sure that it stays beautiful for a longer period of time.
