3 Step Technique For Parents to Relieve Emotional Stress For Children

It breaks my heart when my children go through something that makes them angry, sad, and confused. I used to feel powerless when they were experiencing emotional stress because all I knew to do was tell them to calm down everything would be okay. Then I discovered EFT {Emotional Freedom Technique}. EFT is when you tap on a sequence of energy meridians to move the energy through your body. EFT combines two forms of energy, intention energy and kinesthetic energy. Intention or "thought energy" is activated through spoken statements that focus on the problem. By focusing on the problem with a simple phrase the body locates the blockages in the energy system related to that specific problem. Don't worry too much about the words chosen for problem statements.

You should trust your own intuition when developing problem phrases. Kinesthetic is the second form of energy used in EFT. By tapping on the acupressure points you allow positive energy to flow and replace any negative energy creating blocks. Becoming aware of the flow of energy in my body was so powerful. I could relieve a head ache quicker with EFT then if I took a Tylenol. Letting go of stress is only a tap away. I mean the possibilities are endless. I began to learn all I could about EFT and energy so I could teach it to my kids. I came up with this powerful 3 step technique to stop emotional stress before it creates blocks in the energy flow. This technique has proven its self over and over again. I developed it for those moments when your child is upset hyperventilating and unable to speak clearly. When they are experiencing any kind of emotional trauma or stress. The three steps to relieve emotional stress for children are:

1. Breath and hydrate
2. Identify the problem and EFT
3. Positive reinforcement With the first step you have to refrain from asking what happened. I find in a moment like this they cant express themselves clearly and its unproductive to ask them to try.

As soon as your child comes to you red in the face and hyperventilating rush them to a bathroom or kitchen to drink some fresh cold water. Splash more water on their face and ask them to breath. Take deep breaths with them and tell them to drink more water. This works primarily because you are administrating a double dose of oxygen and showing love by acting quickly. Love and oxygen will help to calm them enough to speak clearly. I am a mother of five children and I understand when someone does something mean to my child it makes me angry.

Emotions like anger and resentment should not be expressed in front of your child. Its ok to feel anger! Just do it by yourself after you have helped your child cope with what happened. The second step is EFT. Move that negative energy out of the body. Identify the problem by asking what happened to them. Example You just got done with the first step and your child can speak and tell you what's wrong. Ask what happened. "Jonny took my ball and when I ask for it back he hit me in the head with it!" "It hurt and I'm going back out there to throw it at him!"

Then you ask your child to repeat after you. Tapping...Karate Chop Point Even though my head hurts and I am mad I deeply love and accept myself...
Even though I am very angry at Jonny I deeply love and accept myself...
Top of the Head Even though I am mad and hurt I deeply love and accept myself...
Eyebrow Point I am mad enough to hit him back...
Side of the Eye Point

Even though he hurt me I deeply love and accept myself...
Even though Jonny hit me in the head with my ball I deeply love and accept myself...
Under Eye Point

I'm so mad I could scream...

Under the Nose
Even though I don't like what Jonny did to me I deeply love and accept myself...

Chin Point
I am mad and hurt! I just want to hit him!...

Collarbone Point
Even though I am hurt and mad I deeply love and accept myself...

Under Arm Point
Even though I am very angry I deeply love and accept myself...Take a long deep breath and drink some more fresh water. Now tap in the positive! Karate Chop Point I probably wont feel any better if I hit him back...
I can forgive him if I want to...
I can breath better now...

Top of the Head
My head feels better...
I forgive Jonny...
I did get my ball back...

Eyebrow Point
I am a little mad still but I forgive him.....
My feelings are hurt but I can forgive him...
I don't have to play with him today...

Side of the Eye Point
I forgive him for taking my ball...

Under Eye Point
I forgive myself for wanting to hit him...
I feel a little better...

Under the Nose
I do sometimes have fun with him when we play together...
Chin Point I forgive him.....
I'm still a little mad but I don't want to hit him anymore...

Collarbone Point
I feel calm...
I feel better...
I forgive him and me...

Under Arm Point
I feel good enough to go back and play...
I will have fun for the rest of my day...

Take a long deep breath and drink some more fresh water.

If your child is still upset do another round of tapping on the positive. You can usually tell if they need to keep tapping by their breathing and overall body language.

Once they are calm and feeling better, the third step is to give them some positive reinforcement!

Example

"I am proud of you for coming to me and not fighting!" "You did a good job calming yourself down!" "I would be happy to play with you!" "You're a great kid and I am proud of you!"

EFT is easy to learn and beneficial in all difficult situations. Learn it and teach it to your children! Both of you will live brighter happier unblocked lives! My hope is that you try this technique and find it as useful as I do! It has changed the way I handle stressful moments and helped me be a better parent. I am very grateful that you allowed me to share this powerful energy technique with you! You are a powerful parent! You are brilliant! You are a super awesome parent!

Self-Injury In Autistic Children - Tips To Protect Your Child

Self-injury is practised by autistic children when they are unable to communicate properly their needs or thoughts on a subject; often, they feel frustration and anxiety at not having their feelings understood and they translate these emotions in a painful manner to release the tension within them.

Other commonly used tactics by autistic children include head-banging, biting themselves or scratching at body parts till blood flows; at times, when an autistic child feels he or she is not getting adequate attention, they may also practise self-injury for getting some of the focus on themselves. This kind of behavior should be curtailed immediately and proper efforts made to understand what the autistic child wants to communicate in order to avoid a similar, dangerous situation occurring in the future.

Thus, the 2 main theories revolving around self-injury are frustration and attention-problem, but another recent belief is that self-injury may have a certain biochemical component which relieves some of the hurtful feelings one feels as the practise releases endorphins, (also known as the happy hormones) into one's system, thus enabling the autistic child to forget about the negative feelings albeit, temporarily. Some believe that if one practises self-injury enough, endorphins start to mask any pain linked with such behavior, which can make self injury addictive.

Some medical experts feel that ignoring this kind of self-injurious behavior displayed by an autistic child is an acceptable method of treating them while others are of the opinion that this can be difficult for parents and other means such as better communication with the child and possibly relaxant drugs be used for treating self-injurious tendencies. The kind of drugs recommended for treating self-injurious behavior are those that release endorphins into the system that are effective in stopping such behavior. Another new-age cure for self-injurious behavior lies in nutritional supplements being included in the diet of the autistic child, mainly vitamin B6 and calcium.

Involving and educating the family circle around the autistic child and teaching everyone concerned about improved ways of communicating with the affected child helps prevent and control self-injurious and reckless behavior; learning the body language of an autistic child requires some time and dedication to learn in order to judge when the child is deviating towards harmful behavior but it can be done and is necessary deal with the situation.
